The Valorous Bastards

Valorous Bastards Sessions 1-9

1st Session The year is 47 after conquest. Maegor I, called Maegor the Cruel, the son of Aegon I and Visenya Is the current King of Westeros. He was the younger brother of Aenys I and served as his Hand during his rule. Under unknown circumstances he came to the Iron Throne ahead of his brother’s son, Jaehaerys. Maegor subdued and disbanded the Faith Militant during his reign with ruthless and brutal methods, earning him his nickname. He is currently building his great masterpiece, The Red Keep in Kings Landing. Currently the great Purge of the faith militant is happening in the south. While in the North little has changed in the last fifty years. The North is recovering from a war between House Bolton and House Stark and tensions are high . After months of fighting a land dispute was agreed upon and peace ensued. The former Lord Bolton was sent to the wall. His son Balor has taken his seat. Brandon Stark has set to rebuilding his kingdom. Gold, titles, and adventure can be had for those with enough courage to muster.

First adventure I gave characters backgrounds and they both wanted tyo be stark bastards. Wyk Snow was the son of a woodswoman in a small village near Winterfell. She still sees Lord Stark when he goes “Hunting” She never married . Palantine Snow was the son of Lord Brandon and the leatherworkers daughter in the Winterfell town. She married and has other children with her new husband. Lord Brandon pretty much ignores him, and is fonder of Wyk.

The Other is a hedge knight going north for a tourney sponsored by Lord Oberyn Herne of Weirwood Hall. The other was an NPC woodsman and NPC meister.

First Adventure Lord Stark calls his Valorous Bastards to take a small chest of 500 silver to his friends sons wedding and to join the tourney and make the house look good. Only Wyk went, brad the other bastard didnt show for the game. Enroute he came upon a small inn in the Wolfswood. The innkeeper saw he was a Stark man and offered him a drink of Cider. The other knight was talking to the innkeep enjoying cider and met wyk. The meister showed up also going to the wedding and offered to heal the innkeeps wife of her ailment for room and board. He accepted. He went to the fields and found medicine and made a broth which healed the womans fever. The three agreed to travel together. The innkeep spoke of bandits in the area, an evil band led by Faramond Openmouth. He had his lips skinned off by Bolton in the war and turned to a life of crime to survive. Next morning they left for Weirwood Hall. While on the road, The hedge knight heard crying beyond the trees. They found a young girl who had been wounded by faramond and his men. They followed her to her house found dad with a cleaver in his head and mom raped and stabbed with a hatchet like 20 times. Her little sister had her leg cut off and she was dead in the yard. They took the farms pig. Wyk vowed to follow them and make them pay for their evil deed. They found them in a small Brogh a stone pyramidal castle built into the side of a mountain cave. They were getting drunk and cooking the pig and fucking their whore. Wyk decided to wait until late when they were drunker. There were seven bandits and the whore thief. One of the bandits heard them in their armor and went out to look for them. He tried stabbing the hedge knight with a spear and it bounced off his armor. The hedge knight dealt with two of the spearmen and Wyk charged in. The Meister stayed behind with the girl. Wyk made short work of the bandits and killed three in a row with his greatsword. Faramond surrendered and vowed to take the black. The hedge knight made short work of the spearmen and one ran off his intestines hanging from his gut. The Ranger found him. He was also seeking Faramond and killed him. The ranger introduced himself and agreed to guide the characters to weirwood hall. The group made their way down the row, prisoners in tow. when they got to a small village named Brodeg the Knight reconized his serf the small girl and asked why she was there. Wyk told him the story and the knight took an ax and beat Faramond to death with it. He then ordered a youth with weak arms to kill the woman, which he did reluctantly and sloppy. The knight told the story of how he and the man had become good friends in the war against bolton and he knew the girls family very well. He agreed to take the child into his house. Wyk refused to eat with the man saying he didnt have any honor, Faramond had been his prisoner and had sworn to take the black. They went to Weirwood Hall, delivered the cache of treasure and introduced themselves and began enjoying the festivities. One of the Mormonts sat next to Nicholas the hedge knight and said where you from boy! Nicholas took it as an insult for being called boy being a sworn knight and hit the man. The 6’5 man. Anyway the two started a brawl at the table and were bodily thrown from the hall by a bunch of knights. Then Mormonts 5 brothers came out to break it up and they beat his ass and took him around back to the godswood and threw him in the godswoods pool. He saw the biggest weirwood he had ever seen over 100 ft tall and ten men wide. Its face stared at him. The daughter of lord Herne was watching him and told him the story of the old gods, and the children of the forest. Next day Mormont challenged Nicholas to a duel. Mormont beat the hell out of him due to excessively good rolls. Wyk won the melee and beat Mormonts ass in it. The Ranger won the archery contest. The meister was doing a Valyrian poetry slam with some ladies of court and impressed on so much he slipped her into an alcove and fucked her silly while her husband drank in the hall below.

Second Session While scouting beyond the wall, Riordan Stark a cousin to the current Lord Stark of Winterfell is beset by ferocious wildlings and barely escapes with his life, he and a fellow companion retreat into the haunted forest. The cannibal Thenns are moving south in great numbers. They have a new Magnar named Corwyn a skinchanger and warg. Friendly wildlings give Riordan aide in the haunted forest. He sees the spear of Torrhen Stark is in the posession of a wildling chieftain. Torrhen was given the Valyrian Spear after kneeling to Aegon at Torrhens Square 50 years ago. Later in life Torrhen went north of the wall to look for the children of the forest and took the spear, but was never heard from again. Riordan sends word to Winterfell on what he witnessed. Lord Brandon Stark wants the Spear back, and he will not stand for some wildling having it in their possession. So he sends One of his Valourous Bastards to Weirwood Hall to gather some men for an expedition. The characters are still tending their wounds from the tourney and wedding last session, so we started there at Weirwood Hall. Stark has three bastards by different commonfolk women he has been involved with. Wyk, Palantar, and Kael. They do dirty work for him and he affectionately calls them his Valourous Bastards. The heir of House Herne, Aubric also demends to go so he can have some experience and have an adventure. The Lord Herne makes them swear his son will be protected and reluctantly lets him go. Palantar takes Sark Horvath a brawly fighter with him, he recruits Wyk, a Maester I cant remember the name of, Nicholas Rivers a hedge knight with the blood of ancient valyrian mercenaries in his veins, who has since grown fond of Rebecca Herne from the tourney when she spoke to him in the godswood and let him steal a kiss and her favor. He says goodbye and promises to protect her brother. The Master of the hunt Patrek also joins the group. They all set off for Greenguard on the wall, to question Riordan Stark about what he saw. Upon arrival they met The Commander of the Garrison and he agreed to let them question Riordan. He sold the characters cold weather gear for the trip as well. Riordan gave them a general description of The wildling called Corwyn leader of the thenns, and The white Lion, a wildling Magnar that carry’s Torhenn’s spear. He also warns them of the thenns and tells them they are cannibals and hated by the other wildlings. The group is given a map by the old maester at the castle of friendly villages on the way to the haunted forest. They leave the wall and travel north. They meet a small village that is willing to let them stay for the evening. They ask questions of the White Lion-Aradagnir. A hero Magnar of much respect. They tell the characters he has Stark blood. This interests the characters and throws a cog in their plans. He has the right to the spear. They meet a Wyrdworker, a wildling Shaman/wandering hermit. He warns Palantar that death stalks him and to beware the wolverines! While dancing and shaking his rattle at the characters. This creeps everyone out. They come to another wildling village and wrestle the Magnar and exchange gifts as is custom in this village. Nicholas gets a tatoo in exchange for his dagger from a wildling girl. Aubric decides they should come back here later so he can get one too. The Maester talks with the Wyrdworker who shows him a healing mushroom that grows of the Weirwood tree at its roots. He makes a formidable knowledge check when in the woods and finds some and collects it. The Magnar tells them of Aradagnir and how the Thenns are camped in the Barrows to the north, the burial grounds are being disturbed they are looking for something and disturbing the dead. The dead are walking. He says. The characters don’t believe it. He shows them a burned arm in a charcoal pit. Burn the dead or they will rise, be warned he says. The characters say they want to find Aradagnir and help him in his quest to kill Corwyn, the Magnar of the Cannibal Thenns. They meet Vojik and Amber his direwolf, a skinchanger hero of little words. He also has a pet mammoth. He agrees to take them to Aradagnir. That night while walking the trail ,they are followed by children of the forest, although they hear the children they do not see them, just fluttering shadows in the deep recess of trees. They hear whispers in the wind. Later, they are attacked by Thenns and their Wolverine cohorts. The Heir Aubric is Knocked from the saddle when he charges the wildlings. The characters fight off the Ten Thenns and their wolverines and take a few injuries. They realize the heir has just been knocked unconscious by a great blow and doesn’t have a scratch on him. I gave the Wolverines a mix of Bear and Boar stats, and allowed them to take injuries and wounds to make them tougher. This is where our session ended. We will continue next week. Most of the characters made it out of combat with minor injuries. I plan on Mass combat and some intrigue to get the Spear. But there will be a huge battle by the standing stones of the first men, a site like stonehenge but with carved faces in the stones. Some undead and some burly cannibals. After they killed off the Thenns attacking them that I stated in an earlier post, the heroes camped for the night. The ranger awoke tto take watch and he saw small footprints in the snow, and a leather bag full of obsidian daggers, arrowheads and spearpoints. The Wildling hero Red Wolf said the children were warning them of danger and that the dead were near. The heroes scoffed at him. Two took obsidian daggers . Red Wolf carried the rest. They followed the footprints to a carved Standing stone of the first men with ancient runes and spirals carved in it and an ancient stern face. The wildling told them of the legend of the children and how they used magic to walk through trees and earth. The characters smelled fire. Upon coming to a wildling village they witnessed the men of the village nailed to the trees and burned. There was a woman tied to the ground pregnant and covered in Runes.Sarn cut the womans gag and she screamed for them to kill her. The runes started glowing and a shadow creature crawled out from the womans womb and attacked them. They used the obsidian to kill it. After this the characters belived in magic. Aradagnir, The White Lion approached the camp with a huge group of Wildling heroes and surrounded the heroes. Aradagnir told them he was the son of Torren Stark and the spear was his. He took them to the Hill fort on the outskirts of the haunted forest. The characters agreed to ally with them to fight the Thenns. After all Aradagnir was a Stark, even if he was a bastard like them. They found out that the Thenns were allied with some shadow witch from beyond the pale.(Iceflow) She and Corwyn were digging through the graves of the ancient heroes and disturbing the dead. Fovilakki, the Shaman returned with news she was working some dark magic at the stones of the first men. The characters spent the night drinking and partying with the wildling heroes, meeting numerous men from different tribes. Two characters got in a whiskey drinking contest and passed out, one being taken advantage of by a Spearwife named Lugavia and her companions Kira and Foh who had numerous piercings and snake tatoos. Nicholas Rivers played the finger dance with some wildlings and came back intact, making a new friend named scarface. The Heir Aubric Herne wanted to go with them to the battle and the meister drugged his wine and renderd him unconscious. In the morning Aradagnir and Fovolakki prayed to the old gods and sacrificed a Thenn and used their blood and his to pour on the roots of the wierwood trees. They each got a free destiny point to use in the game. Aradagnir and his men led the main army of tribes toward the Burial mounds and the characters and Red Wolf would attack the Standing Stones where the witch and her minions were. They fought a Giant, possessed by the with and some possessed wolverines. The giant almost killed the characters Wyk, Nicholas rivers both recieved 3three wounds and three injuries a piece before Wyk did a critical hit with six sixes and killed the giant immediately. ONE GOOD HIT. It was incredible. The witch had sacrificed some Thenns and shadows crawled out of their throats and attacked the other characters splitting the party. Wyk, Nicholas, and Palatine Snow made short work of the witch and Corwyn but it was a close battle. The witch was really tough. Wyk recovered a Valyrian Bastard Sword from Corwyn who had taken it from a grave. Fovalakki showed up and bound their wounds and escorted them back to the hill fort. The characters convalesced until they were healed. Wyk offered to trade the blade for the spear but Aradagnir refused. Saying the spear was less valueable than the sword. Wyk and the others returned south. he told Lord Brandon what had happened. At first he was angry, but then forgave wyk of his failure. The lord also met Fovolakki who had wanted to travel south to see castles and he was instantly the court favoriate. The next day Wyk was called in and given a coat of arms. Lord Brandon stated he must make up a last name for his new house. He wouldn’t acknowledge him, but for his valiant deeds he would be given a tower house and lands to administer. Nothing was said of Palatine Snow. Wyk sensed some anger in his father toward his half brother for some reason and didn’t know why. Brandon asked if wyk wanted any men to accompany him to his new lands , to the far north of karstark on the coast. He chose his companions he had gone to the wall with. At this point the party broke in two to escort the heir back to his lands. we will pick up there next session. Fovolakki the Wyrdworker also went south with the heroes to see Winterfell and the castle.

2nd Session While scouting beyond the wall, Riordan Stark a cousin to the current Lord Stark of Winterfell is beset by ferocious wildlings and barely escapes with his life, he and a fellow companion retreat into the haunted forest. I haven’t done mass combat yet it should be interesting.

3rd Session Riordan Stark, cousin to the Starks of Winterfell was in charge of a column of rangers on a Trade mission beyond the wall. While at a friendly Wildling village trading they were attacked by Cannibal Thenns from the Skirling Pass. Wounded he made his way to the haunted forest with a companion. Friendly wildlings found them and fought off the Thenns. While there Riordan spotted a wildling in posession of Heartseeker, a Valyrian spear given to his grandfather Torren Stark when he kneeled to Aegon the conqueror thirty years ago. Torren went beyond the wall later in life to search for the children of the forest and never returned. He sent word to Lord Brandon Stark of his find. Lord Stark wasn’t about to let some wildling keep a family heirloom, so he sent the heroes off to get the spear. After they killed off the Thenns attacking them that I stated in an earlier post, the heroes camped for the night. The ranger awoke tto take watch and he saw small footprints in the snow, and a leather bag full of obsidian daggers, arrowheads and spearpoints. 4th Session

Wyk, now Wyk Qogrimm, Palatyr “Tyr’ Snow, Sarn Horvath, Killian of Old Wine, and Nicholas Rivers and their wildling companion, shaman Fovalakki Bide their time preparing for their journey to the Alabaster Spire. Killian convinces his wife its a good idea to move to Winterfell and take service with Wyk. She argues at first but Killian makes a sucessful intrigue and convinces his wife he will have a title sooner or later from it and she agrees. Nicholas Rivers returns the Heir to Weirwood Hall safely to his father and tells some white lies about his exploits above the wall. In reality the Measter drugged him and he didn’t participate in the battle at all. The heir shows everyone his wildling tatoo of a weirwood tree. Nicholas recieved permission to court Rebecca Herne from her father but he told Nicholas that he wouldn’t agree to a marrige unless he had a title and some lands. Nicholas learned trhat he wasn’t her only affection from her brother, and was told of a young knight from House Flint named Manderly Flint, “Mance” who had also caught her intrest a few months back but he was south in the barrowlands hunting down Brigands. Later that night, Rebecca had a servant woman give Nicholas a note and asked for him to meet her by the forest road in half an hour. They met and went riding to a wood witches crannog. They were met by her hulking son and the woman agreed to tell their fortune. The witch told him that their marrige was uncertain and there were many possibilities in his future. She warned him of the Gorgon a vicious monster that would try to kill him in the Alabaster Spire. She bid them to drink. The witch gave them something that put Rebecca to sleep. The witch demanded payment of another kind from Nicholas and made him smell incense that aroused him. Her son held him down while the witch recieved her payment of Valyrian seed. She kept telling him fire and blood. Both he and Rebecca woke sore and had foggy memories. There was no sign of the witch or her family. They returned to Weirwood Hall and Nicholas was anxious to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. Fovolakki was talking to the weirwood tree in the godswood. He had copper disks carved with runes and faces of different weirwoods carved on the front of the disks. He carried them like a belt. He saw Fovilakki talking to the weirwood and asking it something in the old tounge. Fovilakki then carved a huge chunk out of its root and put it in his satchel he always carried. Nicholas walked over to him and Fovilakki stared at him with his wild eyes. he had painted his face white like a weirwood and colored his eyes red. “You have slept with a spade woman! This is very Mahina! Very Bad magic!” He then danced around him smelling him and frowning shaking his rattle and telling the demons to leave Nicholas alone. Nicholas asked what he was doing, and Fovalakki replied. Getting rid of demon magic. He then gave Nicholas an ointment to rub on his privates. “Never sleep with a spade woman! They only bring death!” They all said their goodbyes and made their way to Winterfell. Wyk told Maester Cadfael The words for House Qogrimm. “Where others Falter” Cadfael put in in the rcords and sent a raven to the citadel. Wyk then asked Cadfael about the Alabaster Spire. The Maester had plans for the castle but they were 200 years old. He told him to talk to Lord Karstark, Commander of Lord Starks Cavalry trrops for his expert opinion. Over mead in the hall he told Wyk that his cousin had sent two lords to tame those lands over the last ten years. Both men were executed by the locals. The first was cruel and vindictive man, named Harys Wull. He executed any woman that refused his advances, and he took the right of first night from every couple he heard being married. He beat them so badly they showed up the next morning with bruised and abused faces. The man was so violent towards the serfs they stormed an execution block killed the headsman and beheaded the lord for his villany. The next Lord was named Lucion and he had a penchant for burning peoples houses down and stealing from the locals. They rose up in rebellion and murdered him in the Wyvernwood. Soon after smugglers led by Zavarre The Lysene Tiger took over the spire and made it his headquarters, along with his motley crew of slaver degenerates. They allied with a mercenary comapny turned Brigand called the Blackheart Legion. A brigand knight named the Weeper led them. Since they have taken control of the lonely road and have garrisons in the small towns around the spire. Due to the War with Bolton Lord Stark hasn’t had the men or time to deal with this threat. So he has put the task to Wyk. Karstark said to have the merchants guild sponser a tourney in White Harbor to gain heroes and mercenaries to fight a war with the promise of land, once the fighting is finished. Every hedge knight within a thousand leauges will flock to this looking to make a name and title for himself. They sent ravens to Lord Manderly and the Merchants guild both agreed to sponser them. Bearn Mormont agreed to join them, after he saw them leaving the gate.Meanwhile they took a barge from Winterfell to White Harbor and met with Lord Manderly. Tyr and Fovolakki went to the Godswood and Fovolakki told some noblewomen stories of the children of the forest and the weirwood trees. Tyr made advances toward a noblewoman and walked off to rutt in an alcove. She was discovered by her husband, Timeon Captain of the gate who began fighting with Tyr. Tear intimidated him and he backed off taking his wife with him. Later he heard them rutting in the stables talking dirty, being caught with another man ect., it was obviously a game they liked playing. They walked the docks recruited Caeregoth the “Sword Maester” a former student at the citadel who was cast out and has travelled most of the known world studying warfare and swordplay. Another Magella Casteneiades a Merchant Captain from Volantis with a gridge to settle with the Lysene Tiger. Tyr and Fovolakki were patronizing a Brothel and Fovolakki had no coin. Luckily Nicholas Rivers tipped them for helping his friend out. Later, Tyr said he would be staying the week on the tip Nicholas gave them. He was refused service and started a fight with the madame. She had one of her women call the guard, and Captain Timeon showed up to arrest them. Tyr brought up the fact that Timeon caught him with his wife earlier and was making the story up to get him in trouble. Lord Manderly belived him! Timeon went away red faced and pissed. Manderly told him he had a recent plea from a noble who had had his daughter stolen by one of his knightsnamed Arion Grey. Arion took her to the island of Grey off the coast. Lord Manderly gave Tyr the mission to recover the girl and bring the knight to court so he could find out the truth of it. Nicholas, Tyr And Bearn Mormont went to Grey with the help of Magella Casteneides. They arrived on the island without incident made contact with the Noble Arion Grey and the noble daughter Melindra. Melindra told the characters of her fathers abuse and how no one would belive her until Arion listened. He took her away for protective custody. The characters told them they would escort him back so he could testify against the lord. They ate dinner and the next morning a horn sounded. Melindra’s father landed with a large group of men. And began burning everything he came in contact with. Lord Grey sounded the alarm and the people began pouring into the castle. They closed the gates, and Nicholas Rivers made way for Magella’s ship. He was cornered by four scouts on horseback. They thought him easy prey and one charged. Rivers dodged his lance and tackled him from the saddle. He made short work of the man and held him at knifepoint, warning the others off. The knights armor protected him from the other knights lance and he cut the knights mounts front legs off sending the man sprawling. The other two made way for him and Rivers dodged their attacks slicing the man from shoulder to horse and killing both in an explosion of blood and guts. The last knight got the hell out of there . NIcholas warned Magella and she pulled her boat back in the water and attacked the enemy ship while they were aground. Back at the hill fort, Melindra’s father demended to see her. Tyr went looking for her he found her guard killed with a dagger in his back. The 13 year old was missing. One of the battlement men spotted her running off in the direction of shore. Her father began burning the village. Grey had had enough and opened his gates to have a final confrontation with Melindras father. He was lanced to death by an enemy knight. And Mormont, Tyr, And Nicholas finished the battle. They crippled Melindras fathers horse and he fell breaking his leg. The other men were taken captive once the battle was over and they found Melindra hiding in a cabin. melindra;s father Lord Balfour offered the characters 1000 gold dragons each it they lied to lord Mormont for him and told him a favorable tale. He had conspired with his daughter to frame Grey to give him an excuse to storm the island and take it by force and kill lord grey and take his lands. Tyr was disgusted by him. Mormont got tired of listening to him cry and knocked him senseless. The daughter tried to get Tyr to kill her father and to marry her, and offered him herself, lands and titles if he agreed to conspire with her. Tyr told her that wasnt honorable. She said honor is shit power is everything. They took them back to White harbor and Lord Manderly gave Tyr the captured ship. He threw the father and son in the dungeons. This is where we ended the session. The characters were anxious to recruit men at the tourney.

Meanwhile at White Harbor, Lord Manderly and the Tormaline Brotherhood sponsor a grand tournament. Ravens have flown. Wyk Qogrimm has offered lands and titles to warriors and specialists who travel north with him to defeat the Blackguard mercenaries and the smuggling pirates led by Zavarre the Lysene Tiger. Wyk, Sarn and Killian are at the front gates watching the knights as they arrived, drinking cider. Aubric Herne, the young Lord who accompanied them to the wall arrived and he bid them greetings with a score or more young nobles he recruited to his side for the Tournament. Aubric started his own group of errant warriors who styled themselves “The Weirwood Brotherhood” They wore white Tabards with a black shield with a white weirwood tree with a sword coming out of its branches centered. Sarn showed the young nobles to the pillow house and Aubric sported for their good time. Wyk and the others noticed Gargyle of Sisterton, a knight who promised his lady love he would wear a dress to the tournament and win it and her hand in marriage, he walked around the city streets singing of love and chivalry playing his harp and winning the hearts of all the young Noblewomen. Mongo of Skagos a barbarian lordling from Skagos rode into the city on a small, wooly horse dressed in the bronze armor of the first men and was accosted by the guard captain. Wyk intervened, and made friends with Mongo, who shared his whiskey with them and he explained that his particular breed of horse was only known in the mountains of Skagos where even there they were rare. Sarn kept pestering Aubric about his brother Aladare and how he wanted revenge for his father’s death and his woman’s murder. Aubric said he had no proof beyond conjecture that his brother killed Sarn’s father to take his throne early. He told Sarn his brother Aladare was the rightful Lord of House Horvath and Lord Herne thought the accusations false and to leave it alone. Sarn became drunker and more belligerent as the night went on. Manly Flint showed up with Lady Rebecca in tow to the shock of everyone. Wyk greeted her at the gate and asked who the young Lord was and he looked down at Wyk and informed him he was Manly Flint, Heir to House Flint. He made a comment about upstart hedge knights and Wyk gave him a veiled threat about being a courtier and he’d better leave before real warriors took offense to his perfume. They rode on; Rebecca slipped him a note to give to Nicholas Rivers telling him to seek her out in the castle. Nicholas, Tyr and Bearn Mormont were recovering from a day of ship duty hiring out Tyr’s crew for the Lady Tyrah, the ship he received from Lord Manderly for his exploits on Grey. Mormont was getting drunk and telling jokes with the sailors and fell off the boat while taking a piss off the Ram. One of the Ironborn sailors dived in after him and brought him back by pushing his chest. Mormont awoke and paid the man a gold dragon for saving his life. Tyr made the Ironborn his first mate. They caught song coming from the docks and spotted a minstrel named Brown Jim Robinsong who played for them bawdy tales dockside. Tyr saw some knights of the seven, known as the Warriors Sons coming off a ship. He followed them and wanted to know more about them. He found one reading the seven pointed star, their religious manual. He asked the man what he was reading. The Knight asked him if he ever read the seven pointed star. Tyr told him no. So the knight gave him the book, said he had already memorized every passage. Tyr made friends with the man. The knight told them they had fled north to avoid King Maegor the Cruel’s persecution of the holy orders. Captain Traegor wanted to give up their swords and found a monastery in the North, to be left in peace. Tyr promised them Wyk would give them sanctuary and permission to build a monastery on his new lands. Captain Treagor agreed happily to join their cause. The dockside party went tavern side; Sarn, Nicholas, Bearn, and Brown Jim began downing beers and raising bawdy songs. Aubric came in with a few companions and told Nicholas his sister was in the castle with Manly Flint. Nicholas immediately ran for the castle in a jealous rage. He arrived at the gate and found Captain Timeon of the castle guard there. Timeon refused him entrance and said Lord Manderly was entertaining the Lords at supper and Hedge Knights weren’t invited. Timeon barred his way, and Nicholas tried to break through but there were too many guards. Timeon offered to let him through for a silver stag, and he would even tell him where to find Rebecca. At first this enraged Nicholas, but he agreed. Timeon said they are on the tower on the third floor, reveling in wanton sex and lust. Nicholas was infuriated and ran up the tower stair avoiding the Lords banquet below. He became lost in the immense castle. The piss boy Corwyn offered to help him find her, which he did. Manly was in the middle of his romantic episode when Nicholas kicked open the door and drew his axe. Manly drew his bastard sword and asked Rebecca if this was the un-landed upstart hedge knight he had heard so much about. She screamed don’t kill him Manly! And Manly did his best. Nicholas took a wound immediately and then made short work of the naked Manly. He wounded Manly and almost killed him before the young noble screamed bloody murder ran down the hall and collapsed on lord Manderly’s table screaming like a woman. Murder! Murder! He tried killing me in my bed! Knights streamed out of the hall and up the stairs. The piss boy showed Nicholas to the Garderrobe, and pushed him down 30 feet into a slimy cesspool. A bit annoyed, he escaped the guards and made it to the moat. He stumbled back and made his way back to the tavern. The women gave him a bath to clean him up before letting him in. Meanwhile, the party at the Surly Mermaid was getting wild. Tyr bought his men a keg and Brown Jim convinces a score of women to go back to the boat with them. Bearn, Brown Jim, and the sailors have an orgy on the ship. Sarn is approached by a woman who says her employer would like to discuss a business proposition with him. Sarn insulted her and said something very rude. She brought her companion named Terro, a lieutenant for a local crime lord in the slaughterhouse district. Terro asked Sarn to follow them. The local Maester told him that the crime lord wants to speak with you. Go but be wary. Sarn and Nicholas went. The crime lord lived in a vast hidden manse in the center of the slaughterhouse district. He told Sarn he had a big mouth and offered Sarn to kill his brother for him. That way he wouldn’t have to challenge him to a duel at the Tournament and he wouldn’t be considered a kin slayer. The crime lord wanted Lord Zaro Daxos of the Merchants Guild killed. Sarn said he had to think it over. The crime lord said he would send his lieutenant there in the morning to have his answer. Sarn scoped out the castle for the Guild lord. The piss boy told him he lived in the guildhall. after seeing the guildhall, Sarn thought better and decided not to do the dirty deed. Later that night, Nicholas and Sarn went drinking and stumbled up the stairs to Nicholas’s room, intent on sleeping on the floor. Lady Rebecca asked Sarn what he was doing there. He rudely informed the daughter of his liege lord that she needed to shut her whore’s mouth and not to trouble herself with his business. She immediately berated him for cursing at her and told him she could have his head for talking to her in that way. Nicholas just stood there shocked. The Maester overheard them yelling and pulled Lady Rebecca aside and defended her and apologized to her for Sarn’s behavior. Much to his surprise she accompanied him to the first floor of the tavern and he had to make an intrigue defense on her sexual solicitation! She remarked on his Valyrian poetry he did for the ladies at Hernehold and his amourous tryst with a fellow noblewoman after that poetry contest. Luckily he fought off her advances with style. Nicholas paid for Sarn to get a room. The next morning Terro was waiting outside Sarn’s room and asked him what his decision was. Sarn told him it wasn’t honorable to have his brother killed and he would do the deed himself on the champion’s field at the tourney. Terro told him he would see him again. Sarn felt bad about insulting Lady Rebecca, and paid Corwyn the piss boy 20 Silver stags to have a scribe write a letter that he was sorry and to buy her flowers. Corwyn pocketed a small fortune in the coins Sarn gave him, got a scribe to write I’m sorry for my stupidity! And bought her some lilies. He then dutifully delivered them in the rain, soaked he handed them to Lady Rebecca, who stated, He thinks he can buy my anger off with flowers? She asked Nicholas. He even bought me lilies, that’s what you give at a funeral! Moron! She threw the flowers at the wall and tore up the note after laughing at it. Tell your master I’m still wroth with him! Corwyn left and thought better at telling Sarn what had occurred so he just said, she liked em alright milord! The next day at the Tourney, Sarn confronted his brother Aladare about his father’s death and the death of Sarn’s woman, in front of all the nobles at the tourney grounds. His brother rebuked his accusations and called him an upstart liar with delusions of taking his seat. Sarn called for a contest of champions to decide the truth of the matter. Aladare was unable to enter the contest, due to having a “Riding” accident on the way to the tourney and had received a broken arm. Sarn said he would fight any champion called and face the consequences. Aladare agreed that if his champion lost he would take the black; Sarn would suffer the same fate if he lost. Lord Stark asked who Aladare wanted to name a champion. He picked Lord Brandon Starks bastard son Kael as his champion. The older half brother of Wyk and Tyr. Wyk and Tyr were shocked. Their brother appeared in his intricate armor and wolfs head helm with the Karstark starburst on its forehead, his mother’s house. He greeted Wyk and Tyr, Lord Stark and Lord Manderly. He walked calmly to the tourney field, saluted Sarn with his sword. He told Sarn he knew he was friends with Wyk and Tyr but it mattered not to him. He was going to do his job as champion and fight with all his ability. Just as they were about to begin, an alarm horn sounded. Knight Watchmen showed up, screaming that the harbor was being attacked by Ironborn raiders. Wyk spotted his sisters in the tourney stands. What were they doing HERE? The heroes and the majority of the knights rushed to the docks and began fighting Ironborn raiders. The characters took up positions defending Tyr’s warship from Ironborn sailors wanting to torch it. As the characters looked at the docks they realized the Ironborn were burning ships, they weren’t raiding. They were burning the FLEET! They fought about twenty Ironborn trying to burn their ship. A particularly nasty Ironborn captain with a valyrian axe took of Beorn Mormonts arm at the elbow with two well placed blows. Axe fighter 3 is nasty! Killian shot the Ironborn captain three times with well placed archery shots and Sarn finished him with Tyr’s help. The Ironborn began to retreat. Wyk and Tyr boarded their ship to put out the fire and help with the wounded. Brown Jim put a tourniquet on Mormont’s arm and with Sarn’s help dragged Mormont up the hill to the castle for medical aide. Nicholas took the Ironborn captains axe and began clearing the docks of wounded. Sarn and Jim were cornered in a small street by Terro and six of his men. Terro told the singer to leave. Brown Jim looked at Sarn and said. I’m sorry I’ll get help to you. He had a rough time of carrying Mormont’s limp body up the alleyway. Terro said. I told you I’d see you again. He drew his bravo’s blade and began fighting Sarn with his men. Sarn couldn’t get close to the fast swordsman to do damage and burned two destiny points negating damage. Terro took two wounds shrugged and drew a second bravo’s blade and said, I’m tired of playing with you. He then gave Sarn another wound before Sarn got a lucky hit and finally did enough damage to put his enemy down. He then used his final destiny point to fight off the remaining bravos in a doorway. He slowly beat them off, had one health point left and killed the final bravo after the man tried to drag Terro’s body away. He cut Terro’s head off and stumbled up the hill, collapsing at the castle gates. In the Aftermath of the attack, Sarn and Mormont lay bedridden with their wounds. Tyr’s ship survived the fire and was assisting in the rescue of the sailors in the water. My friend Jon began playing in this session as a one shot and played one of the lesser son’s of House Karstark. Alain Karstark: Alain Karstark was born 18 years ago, a younger cousin to Lord Roland Karstark. At the age of four he was taken to Deepwood Motte to foster at House Glover. His sister was promised to the heir to House Glover, Riathan Glover. On the eve of their wedding, the Ironborn of House Hoare and Wyk raided Deepwood Motte, sacking the town and taking captives. It was wholesale slaughter, the town was in the middle of festivities and was taken by total surprise. Alain’s brother and sister were both murdered in the attack, and he was taken back to Pike by House Hoare. The boy was scarred and bereft, having seen the rape and murder of his sister before his eyes. An Ironborn warrior left him with a jagged facial scar across his left cheek, almost taking his left eye. The eye itself healed, but the iris turned red; a permanent reminder of his capture and imprisonment. The first two years were hard, as hard as the Island of Pike. As a ward awaiting ransom, the sons of House Hoare abused the lad and forced disgusting menial tasks to him and he was physically abused constantly by the other Ironborn boys, who viewed the Greenlander as a weakling. After a serious beating, Maester Levitas cured the lad and demanded to his Lord that he take in the lad as a steward, before he was killed. Lord Harran Hoare agreed, after all a dead boy would bring no ransom. Levites made a wager with Harren, if the boy could best Harren’s own son in arms by twelve he was to be accepted into the ranks as a ward, just as any other nobles son had the right to. Harren agreed, thinking the maester needed a new pet. Alain listened carefully to the maester, who taught him deception was the way to survival. The young captive Karstark learned much from his tutor, and he became hardened by the maester, learning the keys of influence by aggression and power through force. He had the local smith teach him swordplay and crafting weapons. Soon the young lad was all sinew and lean muscle. He learned to focus his anger on survival and cunning and waited for the day he could have his revenge.. The maester also taught him of leechcraft and reading. He had grown despondent waiting for his uncle to pay his ransom, he had had no ravens from the north in response to Lord Harren’s request for gold. He feared his uncle thought him dead, and there would be no ransom paid. Alain decided he had to find his own escape, his own way in the world to survive. Young Karstark used his knowledge of the body in his swordplay, striking deadly accurate at vulnerable points in ones armor and flesh. By twelve Alain was an impressive youth, well schooled in the arts of swordplay and the ways of the Ironborn. He even had himself drowned, falsely giving his captors the idea he had converted to the drowned god. His ruse worked well, and the day came for Harren’s son to challenge his upstart captive. Harren and his son’s were anxious to humiliate the lad. And they were stunned at his ability at the warrior’s moot, where Ironborn children proved their fighting skills and were accepted into the ranks of the wards, young boys pledged to a warrior. Alain was challenged by Harren’s son, and asked his father for the use of edged weapons instead of practice weapons. He said Alain’s uncle would not pay his ransom because he was worthless, and if he was truly a man, he would have to become an Ironborn, forgetting his past and family. The battle would be to first blood. Alain agreed. Alain defeated Harren’s son and broke his arm in the fight, and immediately demanded his right to warriors ward. Harren agreed, impressed with the lad. One warrior stood and said he would take the young man as ward, Tyrin Seareaver of of Wyk, Captain of the Blue Hag. Alain became a reaver, striking the lands south of Wyk, and became the bane of the Lannisters and Tyrell’s. For eight years he raided with the crew of the Blue Hag. The Ironborn no longer watched him as carefully as they had, and let him go on sorties with them inland. One day while raiding deep into Lannister lands, he left a bottle with a note at the place of the battle, telling the Lannister forces of his identity and where the location of the next raid would be. Finally, his moment or revenge had come. The crew came into conflict with House Lannister and Tyrell, who had set an ambush up on the western shores. The battle was thick and bloody, and The Lannister and Tyrell forces were victorious. For some reason his heart wasn’t feeling the pride he thought he should for his victory. Betraying this crew was something different, dishonorable even. Karstark had grown fond of Tyrin Seareaver, and many of the crew. They were Ironborn, nothing but thieves and murderers. But what did that make him? What had he become? He watched in silence as the captives were hung and their bodies put to the torch. He was then taken prisoner by The White Lion of Lannister, until his father sent his ransom and men from the North to escort him home. Six months later he was back in Karstark lands. His Uncle welcomed him but was distant, embarrassed by the inability to come up with the ransom sooner. Feeling Betrayed Alain went to the Godswood to ask the old gods for forgiveness, and to reaffirm his oath to them. He was knighted by his uncle the next day, and offered to make marriage arrangements. Alain was put off. Once again his Uncle was trying to be rid of him, and force some unwanted marriage upon him. Knighthood was no consolidation either. He felt out of place among the lords and their polite ways, and many of his family members did not know him. It was not the homecoming he had expected. He has since come to White Harbor to fight in the Grand tourney, It was unexpected he would be fighting Ironborn, But you relish the idea. Alain entered a tavern to get a cup of ale after the battle. Has he sat there drinking while the smallfolk huddled and tended to wounded he spied Mongo of Skagos riding his shaggy wooly horse up the cobblestone street with a fully armored Ironborn captain in tow tied to a length of rope. The Captain was banging around the city street alive only because he was dressed in full plate. Alain stopped him, and Mongo dismounted while Alain questioned him. The Ironborn told him his name was Captain Oren Longshank and that Gerold Ironaxe led the ships to the harbor on the raid, and he was unsure who paid them, but they had paid them well. Alain let Mongo go and ordered him to take the Captain to Lord Manderly for questioning. Upon arriving at the castle gates they were shocked to find the main hall being used as a hospice for the wounded knights and nobles. Alain told lord Mormont what he had learned. Mormont sent for Urien Glokta a maimed torturer and his assistant Mace, a silent giant mute. Mace dragged away Longshanks. Alain payed Urien Glokta ten coppers to make sure Longshanks came out a Shortshanks. Glokta grinned evilly and left him. Tyr and Alain and Wyk conferred that after raids Ironborn usually put up in a secure port and raid and pillage. One of the Ironborn sailors on Tyr’s crew said the Isle of Grey would be a perfect place being it was weakly defended and the fighting men had been sorely fought a few days before. Magella’s ship returned and confirmed their suspicions. The Ironborn had indeed landed on grey. Tyr and Magella agreed to use stealth to get their ships to the far side of the small island and sneak to the Ironborn camps by foot. They began recruiting troops to go. Many of the tourney knights volunteered angered at the disruption of the tournament. Amoung those that went were the Boltons, Reynes, Karstarks, The Bolton twins, Gargyle of Sisterton, The characters succeeded in sneaking onto the island and each character was put in charge of a small amount of troops. They surprised the longships camped on the beach first and made short work of the carousing ironmen. They then went to the village of Grey where they witnessed the Ironborn raiding the town and taking whatever they could get their hands on. Alain, Wyk decided to parley and offered the Ironborn captain his ship back if he agreed to tell them who had paid him for the raid. At first the captain was arrogant but when he realized Alain and Wyk had captured their boats he gave in to diplomacy. The Ironborn Captain told them Zavarre the Lysene Pirate had paid for the raid. Wyk led the Ironborn go back to their ship and then evacuated the island with the rest of the Ironborn boats so the people wouldn’t be harassed any more. The people of Grey prepared for their exodus, among the merriment of the heroes and the locals Gargyle of Sisterton told the locals his story of love and chivalry and his Lady Love of Moonmaiden. Alain decided he liked the boisterous knight who wore the flower dress for love and chivalry. Lady Bolton the daughter of the Dreadfort found solace in Alain’s company. A week passed. The survivors on the isle and their livestock were moved to white Harbor. On their return they heard from Magella that the Ironborn had gone back to Grey. Gargyle was arrested when Lord Manderly cancelled the tournament. He assaulted two guardsman and the Captain of the guard Timeon, who had him committed to the lower dungeons until he came to his senses. Alain visited him and brought wine and pen and ink. Gargyle said he wanted to kill himself because he couldn’t win the tournament and his lady love would not agree to their marriage. Alain told him to write her a poetic letter, and tell her there would be other tourneys he would win on her behalf. This cheered Gargyle up. The group also learned that Beaorn Mormont’s wound was infected and he was running a fever, as was Sarn. The Lannisters and Raynes told Wyk of their plan to go up the River to the rebel lands and make a stronghold at the Wyvernhold. Wyk met with his sisters who had come to look for potential suitors now that Wyk had lands of his own, they gave him a lsit of knights they thought were cute. He frowned and started marking them off, No,,No,,, Nooo, Killian’s wife invited them to stay with her .They agreed to Killian’s chagrin.

Session 9 King Maegor the Cruel called all his retainers in for a war with an Ironborn Fleet. Many of Wyks newly recruited knights and sellswords left after hearing the decree. The Holy Order of Warriors sons stayed as did the Reynes and Lannisters. Bearn Mormont recovered from his wound and took his woman upstream with him. Lord Karstark payed for their passage upriver. Wyk and his companions made contact with Lord Sten Gavoran of Whitefall, a strong built settlement ruled by a somewhat loyal Gavoran. He agreed to help Wyk, and was made a bargain that he could toll boats coming up and down river from Deeplake. Staying a few days Wyk and the others witnessed the Lord Gavoran’s harsh justice. Criminals were put in a crab bed in the river tied to poles until they were eaten alive. This man had been making war on the bandits for some time. Wyk let this stand. The Meister met Lady Etherand Gavoran’s daughter who loved reading and history. She had dreams of being a meister until she found out women weren’t allowed in the ranks. Wyk and the others are currently planning their plans for the area.
